Simple Tips to Reduce Your Child’s Mobile Addiction

Many parents face challenges when their children avoid studying, refuse to eat, or ignore instructions. While mischief is normal, the situation is more complex for today’s Gen Alpha children, who spend a large part of their day on mobile screens—watching reels, cartoons, or playing games. This habit reduces their attention span, makes them stubborn, and decreases physical activity, which can harm their health.

Here are some lifestyle changes to help keep children away from screen addiction:

Stay away from your mobile: Avoid using your phone while spending time with your child. Talk, play, or do activities together. If you limit your screen use, your child is likely to follow your example.

Engage them in indoor games and creative activities: If outdoor play is not possible, provide board games, puzzles, block sets, drawing materials, or storybooks. Encourage colouring or other creative activities. This naturally keeps children away from screens.

No mobile during meals: Using mobiles while eating distracts children and prevents them from enjoying their food. Sharing stories and conversations as a family makes mealtimes more enjoyable.

Gradually reduce screen time: Instead of cutting TV or mobile suddenly, set gradual limits. Specify how long and at what times mobile use is allowed. Following a consistent routine reduces addiction and establishes healthy habits.
