Imran Collaborates with Female Composer for First Time

In a notable first for Bangladeshi cinema, acclaimed singer Imran Mahmudul has lent his voice to a song composed by a female musician. The track, “Kothay Pabo Tahare”, from the recently released film Dum, features lyrics and composition by Parsha Mahjabin Purni, who also joins Imran on vocals. Released during Chandratra, the song has quickly drawn attention for its unique melodic blend and emotional depth.

Parsha rose to prominence during the July 2024 movement with her song “Cholo Bhule Jai”, earning widespread recognition. Since then, she has showcased her talent as an actress on television and OTT platforms. With Dum, she takes on the dual role of composer and lyricist for a feature film, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey.

Speaking about the experience, Imran shared, “This is the first time I’ve sung a song composed by a female musician. It was an entirely new experience. Purni has written and composed beautifully. The song is like a long-distance race—it gradually finds its way into listeners’ hearts.”

He also praised their longstanding professional rapport: “I’ve known Purni since 2017 and have admired her writing from the start. When she first sent me this composition, I immediately knew it was perfect. It has turned out to be an extraordinary song.”

Parsha commented on their creative bond, saying, “I can share everything with Imran; he is like a mentor and a dear friend. When I played him the song, he immediately understood my vision for it.”

The music video for Kothay Pabo Tahare features Dum’s lead actors, Afran Nisho and Puja Cherry. While this is Imran’s first song in a Nisho-starrer, their history goes back years: Nisho appeared in the music video for Imran’s early hit “Tumi Dure Dure Ar Theko Na”. Reflecting on this, Imran said, “Although it’s my first song for his film, Nisho and I have a long story. After so many years, returning to a project with him feels special. I hope this song resonates with everyone.”

Directed by Redwan Rony, Dum is a survival story inspired by true events, marking Rony’s return to filmmaking after a decade. Produced by SVF–Alpha i Entertainment Limited, the film was released in cinemas nationwide during Eid 2026.

Beyond Dum, Imran’s voice features on several other Eid releases, including “Shuddhatar Prem” and “Tumi Chara” from Siam’s Rakshas, and “Pori” from Shakib Khan’s Prince. Notably, Pori represents Imran’s first musical composition for a Shakib Khan film in eight years.
