Jagannath University (JnU) is set to conduct its highly anticipated undergraduate (Honours) and BBA first-year admission examinations for the ‘A’ Unit and ‘C’ Unit on Friday, 26 December, and Saturday, 27 December, respectively. The examinations form a crucial gateway for thousands of aspiring students seeking admission to one of the country’s leading public universities.
According to the university administration, both examinations will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, lasting one hour each. All logistical, administrative, and security preparations have already been finalised to ensure a smooth, transparent, and orderly examination process.
Intense Competition for Limited Seats :
The level of competition this year remains exceptionally high. Under the ‘A’ Unit, which includes the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences, a total of 72,474 candidates have applied against just 860 available seats. Meanwhile, the ‘C’ Unit, covering the Faculty of Business Studies, has received 20,537 applications for only 520 seats, reflecting fierce competition among commerce-stream students.
Examination Centres Across the Country:
To reduce pressure on candidates and ease travel-related difficulties, Jagannath University has expanded its examination centres for the ‘A’ Unit beyond Dhaka. The ‘A’ Unit examination will be conducted at 12 centres in total, including three centres outside the capital—Comilla University, Khulna University, and Rajshahi University.
Within Dhaka, examinations will be held at nine centres, including Jagannath University itself, the University of Dhaka, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Mohammadpur Government High School, Engineering University Girls’ School and College, Banglabazar Government Girls’ High School, Dhaka Collegiate School, K.L. Jubilee High School and College, and BIAM Model High School and College.
For the ‘C’ Unit, examinations will take place exclusively within Dhaka. Besides Jagannath University, candidates will sit for the test at Banglabazar Government Girls’ High School, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, and Government Muslim High School. No centres have been allocated outside the capital for this unit.
Question Pattern and Mark Distribution :
Each admission test will carry 100 marks, of which 72 marks will be allocated to multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The remaining 18 marks will be determined based on candidates’ SSC and HSC (or equivalent) academic results.
For the ‘A’ Unit, questions will be drawn from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. The ‘C’ Unit examination will assess candidates on English, Mathematical Aptitude, Accounting, and Business Principles and Applications.
Statements from the Deans :
Professor Dr Parimal Bala, Dean of the Faculty of Science, stated that all preparations had been completed well in advance. He emphasised that the inclusion of centres outside Dhaka was a deliberate decision aimed at ensuring greater convenience for examinees.
Meanwhile, Professor Dr Muhammad Manjur Murshed Bhuiyan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, confirmed that despite the large number of applicants, the university is fully prepared to conduct the examination efficiently and fairly.
