Jamā‘at Official Removed Over Scandal

A leader of Jamaat-e-Islami in Jhalokathi has been removed from his position after facing serious allegations of harassment and sending inappropriate messages to a student’s mother. Hafiz Nurullah, who served as the Amīr of Ranapasha Union, Nalchiti Upazila, was expelled following an internal investigation by the district Jamaat committee, which concluded last Saturday, 6 December.

Nurullah hails from Tentulbaria village and is the son of Maulana Amjad Hossain. Professionally, he works as a teacher at a local independent primary Madrasah in Krishnakathi. According to the allegations, he sent objectionable messages to the mobile phone of a student’s mother, who is married to a migrant worker abroad. The messages reportedly led to a confrontation, during which Nurullah was physically assaulted by family members of the student.

The case gained attention when a segment of Nurullah’s statement was briefly posted as a video on Facebook. Though the video was swiftly removed, it circulated widely, prompting discussions and criticisms on various social media platforms.

Jhalokathi district Jamaat Secretary Mohammad Faridul Haque highlighted the organisation’s stance, stating, “Jamaat-e-Islami does not tolerate behaviour outside ethical and moral norms. His conduct violated party discipline, and therefore, the decision to expel him was necessary.”

The expulsion serves as a reminder that Jamaat-e-Islami maintains strict codes of conduct for its members, particularly for those in teaching and leadership positions. Community members have welcomed the decision, emphasising the importance of moral integrity and accountability among those in positions of authority.
