Renowned New York City artist Joan as Police Woman has unveiled a live performance video of her acclaimed track Anyone, following on from the intimate presentation of The Ride. The release forms part of a special series titled The Real Life Anniversary Sessions, celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut album Real Life, originally released in 2005 on the UK independent label Revil Records.
The anniversary series offers audiences an intimate glimpse into Joan Wasser’s musical world—known professionally as Joan as Police Woman since 2004—where she seamlessly blends soul, jazz, and folk influences. Across these performances, Wasser delivers a deeply personal and spellbinding experience, revealing both her technical mastery and emotional depth.
A versatile musician, vocalist, and producer, Wasser has built a distinct musical universe encompassing ten studio albums, two cover albums, and a comprehensive anthology. Her career is further distinguished by collaborations with legendary artists including Tony Allen, Lou Reed, Anohni, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rufus Wainwright, Jon Kelly, David Byrne, and Damon Albarn. She has also contributed to Gorillaz’s Song Machine project and is currently touring across Europe and the United States with Iggy Pop’s band.
The newly released live videos were recorded on 11 November 2025 at The Owl Music Parlor in New York, with support from Will Grief (guitar, vocals) and Jeremy Gastin (drums, vocals). Wasser explained her approach to reimagining Anyone:
“I wanted to liberate Anyone from its original 6/8-triple-meter soul ballad format. We have reinvented the song in a new style reminiscent of Van Morrison’s folk-jazz sensibilities.”
Fans can anticipate further live performances in 2026 as part of the Real Life Anniversary Tour, encompassing dates across the United States and Europe.
