Joint Operation Planned in Raipura to Combat Terrorism: Home Affairs Adviser

Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, has announced that a joint operation will be conducted in Raipura to tackle terrorism and criminal activities. Speaking during a visit to Narsingdi District Jail on Wednesday morning, he highlighted the concentration of armed militants in the area and stressed the need for a coordinated response involving the army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police, and other law enforcement agencies.

“Raipura has become a hub for terrorist activity. The group known as Teta has upgraded itself with weapons, and they must be brought under the law swiftly,” he remarked.

The Home Affairs Adviser also reflected on the incident of 19 July, when a fire at the district jail allowed numerous inmates to escape. “Some surrendered voluntarily, while others have been recaptured. A significant portion of the looted arms has been recovered. Most of the fugitives are involved in drug-related offences. We are committed to eradicating drug crime and will establish specialised prisons for drug offenders,” he added.

During the visit, Narsingdi Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Faruk and other senior police officials were present. The adviser conducted inspections of the police lines’ canteen, hospital, and other facilities before proceeding to the district jail to review security and prisoner management.

Officials emphasised that the upcoming joint operation in Raipura aims to restore public safety, dismantle armed groups, and prevent further criminal and narcotics-related incidents. The collaborative effort reflects a strategy to strengthen law enforcement coordination and enhance community security.
