A new chapter in the administration of Khulna City Corporation began on Sunday as Nazrul Islam Manju formally assumed the role of city administrator. The official ceremony was held at the Shahid Altaf Auditorium in the city building, where he received the responsibilities from the outgoing administrator, Md. Mokhtar Ahmed, under the supervision of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner.
The event was presided over by the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation, Rajib Ahmed, and attended by officials from government and private institutions, as well as leaders and representatives of various political and social organisations in Khulna. The ceremony underscored both tradition and a forward-looking vision for the city’s governance.
Upon taking charge, Manju emphasised the importance of integrity and diligence in managing the century-old corporation. “It is my foremost responsibility to run Khulna City Corporation with full honesty and dedication,” he stated. “Every citizen’s dignity and rights must be respected, and I will work tirelessly to address their concerns.”
He made a clear commitment to establishing a completely corruption-free city administration. “I do not wish to earn money through illicit means, and neither should any officer engage in unauthorised financial transactions during my tenure,” he said. He added that all development projects would be conducted properly, focusing on sustainability and long-term benefits. “No project under this administration will involve commission or improper dealings,” he asserted.
Manju also stressed the need for field-level supervision. “From early morning, officials must accompany me on the streets and actively participate in ensuring a clean and organised city,” he declared. “This is not just a vision; it is something we will implement. I will be on the streets, and our officers will be on the streets, directly among the people.”
Addressing civic grievances, the administrator highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability. “There are numerous complaints from our citizens about city services, and we intend to listen and act on them. Through accountability, we aim to deliver a transparent and efficient city administration.” He further stressed providing security and addressing the needs of residents from all faiths, acknowledging the existing gaps and promising protective measures.
