Fire Set on Parked Bus in Jessore, Major Accident Averted

In Jessore’s Upazila, a passenger bus parked near a local park was set on fire by miscreants in the early hours of Thursday. The interior of the bus was damaged, but the engine remained intact. Quick action by nearby slum residents prevented a potential major disaster.

Locals reported that after the Fajr prayer, they suddenly saw fire inside the bus. Residents managed to control the fire after approximately 20 minutes of effort. Bus supervisor Hannan Khan stated that the vehicle regularly operates on the Jessore–Magura road and had been parked in the Upazila area on Wednesday night. Although seats and various equipment were burnt, the engine remained unaffected.

Residents noted that if the fire had spread to the adjacent slum area, a serious catastrophe could have occurred. Their swift action helped prevent this.

Kazi Babul, Inspector (Investigation) of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, said initial assessments suggest that the fire was set by breaking the window next to the driver’s seat. The night guard present at the scene had gone to a nearby shop. The police are investigating the incident and efforts are ongoing to identify the culprits.
