Modern Revival of Bengali Baul Music

Bangladeshi music producer Armin Musa has unveiled his latest creation, Bengali Baul Lokgan, now available globally on Splice, a leading digital platform for music producers, composers, and DJs. Splice provides royalty-free samples across diverse genres, including electronic, cinematic, pop, and experimental music, making it an essential tool for both digital and live music production.

The Bengali Baul Lokgan project was developed in collaboration with the Indian music label Arhar, led by acclaimed composer Dhruv Goel. The collection uniquely blends the century-old spiritual essence of Baul music, the lyrical depth of its poetic traditions, and its spontaneous expressive style with contemporary music production technology. By integrating traditional folk melodies with modern sound design, the project aims to present Baul music in an international contemporary context while preserving its core soul and authenticity.

Vocals for the project were delivered by renowned Baul artists Baby Akhtar and Lokman Siddiqui. Production was led by Armin Musa, with sound mixing by Iftekharul Alam Shuvo. Musa highlighted that the interplay of the two vocalists captures the profound spiritual and emotional dimensions of Baul music. He emphasised that the project transforms Baul music from a static tradition into a living, adaptable art form, harmonising with modern technology and international standards.

Previously, British-Bangladeshi music director Kishon Khan collaborated with Baby Akhtar to present Baul music in modern jazz and fusion formats, laying groundwork for contemporary reinterpretations.
