Mother of Four Assaulted Following Mobile Meeting

A 40-year-old mother of four was allegedly gang-raped in Madhabdi, Narsingdi, after agreeing to meet a man she had been in contact with via mobile phone. The victim filed a complaint at Madhabdi Police Station on Friday, 6 March, prompting the authorities to apprehend 32-year-old Riday Mia later that afternoon, identified as the main suspect in the case.

The attack reportedly occurred on Thursday night near a pond at a fish farm in Khamardi, Padmarkanda, within Kathalia Union of Madhabdi. According to police sources, Riday Mia had been communicating with the victim for several days via mobile, leading to the arranged meeting.

Incident Details

The victim, originally from Gopaldi village under Araihazar Police Station in Narayanganj, currently resides in Mendatala, Madhabdi Municipality. Police reports indicate that she visited the Araihazar municipal market with her daughter on Thursday afternoon to purchase Eid clothing. After sending her daughter home before iftar, she was approached by Riday Mia, who insisted on meeting her.

Upon reaching Khamardi, Riday Mia allegedly proposed marriage. When the victim refused, he reportedly dragged her toward the pond, where three other unidentified men, lying in wait, joined in the assault. The perpetrators allegedly stole her mobile phone and money before fleeing the scene. The survivor sought refuge at a nearby power loom factory and immediately informed the authorities.

Madhabdi Police inspected the crime scene and tracked the suspect via mobile phone records. Riday Mia has admitted his involvement. The identities of the other three suspects have been established, and police operations to apprehend them are ongoing. The victim has undergone a medical examination, and Riday Mia is scheduled to be produced before court.
