Murderer of Mother and Daughter in Mohammadpur Arrested

A shocking and gruesome double homicide has left the Mohammadpur community in utter disbelief. Police have apprehended a domestic worker, identified as Ayesha, in connection with the brutal killing of a mother and her teenage daughter on Shahjahan Road in the capital. She was arrested from Jhalokathi and brought to Mohammadpur Police Station for further investigation.

Confirming the incident to the media, Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mezbaha Uddin stated that the suspect, dressed in a burqa, entered the residence on Monday morning and murdered both victims before fleeing the scene. The deceased have been identified as Layla Afroze, 48, and her 15-year-old daughter, Nafisa Lawal binte Aziz.

According to police investigations, Ayesha had begun working at the family’s home just four days prior, introducing herself under that name. Nafisa was a ninth-grade student at Mohammadpur Preparatory School, while her father, M.Z. Azizul Islam, serves as a physics teacher at Sunbeams School in Uttara. The family resided on the seventh floor of a Shahjahan Road apartment at 32/2.

CCTV footage reviewed by authorities shows that at 7:51 a.m., shortly after Nafisa’s father left for school, Ayesha entered the apartment in a burqa. Approximately ninety minutes later, she left the residence wearing Nafisa’s school uniform and a face mask. It was not until 11 a.m. that the father returned to discover his wife and daughter lying lifeless in a pool of blood.

Police sources revealed that Layla had been attacked while Nafisa desperately attempted to summon help via the dining room intercom, but her efforts proved futile. During the struggle, Nafisa was fatally stabbed. Officers recovered two knives from the bathroom—a switch-gear knife and a fruit-cutting knife—which are believed to have been used in the killings. Security guard Malek has been taken into police custody for questioning.

Investigations into Ayesha’s background indicate that she was born in a village in Rangpur, orphaned after her parents perished in a fire, and had been living with her uncle and aunt in Geneva Camp. She also bears visible burn scars on her body.

Residents who visited the apartment report bloodstains throughout the flat, overturned furniture, and missing mobile phones. Police continue to catalogue the scene and examine the property for further evidence.

This shocking crime has sent ripples of fear and grief throughout the neighbourhood. Authorities emphasised that the investigation is ongoing and promised swift action to bring all involved parties to justice.
