A tragic accident in Netrokona has claimed the life of a college student after he fell from a moving train and collided with an electrical pole. The incident occurred on Sunday morning near Rajur Bazar in Netrokona municipality, along the Mohanganj-Mymensingh railway line.
The deceased has been identified as Yasin Ahmed, aged 18, a resident of Dhanpur village in Barhatta Upazila. Yasin was a twelfth-grade student in the Humanities stream at Netrokona Abu Abbas Degree College.
According to family members, local residents, and railway authorities, Yasin left home at around 7:45 a.m. to attend college. He boarded the Intercity Haur Express at Mohanganj Railway Station, which was heading towards Dhaka. Due to overcrowding in the train coaches, he stood near the door.
At approximately 9:00 a.m., as the train reached the Rajur Bazar area of the district town, Yasin lost his balance due to the push of other passengers and fell from the train. Tragically, he struck an electrical pole located alongside the railway track, sustaining severe injuries. Locals immediately rushed him to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Nasir Uddin, Assistant Station Master at Netrokona main station, expressed his sorrow, stating, “The young man fell from the train near the Rajur Bazar railway gate. The impact with an electrical pole caused his death. This is extremely tragic, and such accidents could be prevented with proper caution.”
Inspector Md. Akhtar Hossain of Mymensingh Railway Police confirmed that Yasin’s body has been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the accident. Authorities have warned commuters against standing near train doors, especially in crowded coaches, citing the inherent risks.
