Housing and Public Works Minister Jakaria Taher Sumon has emphasised that no individual or organisation will be permitted to construct buildings outside the boundaries of the law. “All projects must be implemented strictly in accordance with legal provisions,” he stated during a high-level meeting on Saturday evening at the Comilla Circuit House auditorium.
The meeting, convened with the heads of departments under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, focused on ongoing and planned infrastructure projects across Comilla. Addressing the officials, the minister said, “Our government is committed to operating fully within the law. While past irregularities cannot be reversed, we must ensure no deviations occur in the future. During my tenure, adherence to legal protocols will be paramount in all project execution.”
Minister Sumon highlighted the importance of preventing wastage and curbing corruption in public works. He assured that previously suspended or stalled projects would be reviewed and prioritised for resumption based on necessity.
During the session, the minister reviewed the progress of current and new constructions under the Public Works Department in Comilla, including housing for government employees, priority construction of police stations, and improvements at Comilla Central Jail. He also addressed issues related to administrative efficiency and project oversight.
Senior officials present included Mu Reza Hasan, Deputy Commissioner of Comilla; Shah Alam, Administrator of Comilla City Corporation; Anisuzzaman, Superintendent of Police; and other high-ranking government officers. Following the meeting, Minister Sumon interacted with local party members and leaders.
