In Chandina Upazila of Comilla, the District Administration and Health Department have temporarily suspended operations at four private hospitals and diagnostic centres due to various irregularities in the healthcare sector.
The institutions ordered to close temporarily are—Ibn Sina Hospital, New Chandina Medical Centre (Insaf Community Hospital), an unnamed private hospital, and Du’a Diagnostic Centre.
The inspection was conducted by Comilla’s Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Reza Mohammad Sarwar Akbar. He reported that some facilities lacked valid licences, did not maintain price lists in Bengali, had no fridges or colour-coded bins in pathology labs, had no technician in the X-ray room, failed to report dengue patients to the health department, used expired reagents, and in some cases had no doctors, technicians, or cleaners on site.
Dr Akbar stated, “Operations at the four institutions have been temporarily suspended due to these irregularities. They have been instructed to rectify all deficiencies and submit a report to the Civil Surgeon’s office within seven days.”
He further added that regular inspections will continue across the district to ensure the quality of healthcare services at private hospitals and diagnostic centres.
