Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, a prominent political figure and potential candidate for the Dhaka–8 constituency, remains in life-threatening condition following a targeted shooting. Admitted to Evercare Hospital, Hadi’s condition underscores the escalating risks faced by political leaders in the current environment.
Inquilab Manch activist and DUCSU member Fatima Tasnim Zuma has alleged that the attack was orchestrated by a coordinated syndicate, whose members were so audacious that they reportedly followed the assailants to the hospital itself. This claim indicates the existence of an organised network capable of operating with near impunity. Zuma emphasised that the assassination attempt was not the work of a lone individual; multiple actors collaborated to execute the plan, demonstrating a disturbing level of coordination and intent.
Despite the attack occurring two days ago, law enforcement has not managed to apprehend the primary suspects. Zuma expressed frustration, noting that the authorities already possess comprehensive information on at least one suspect who had previously been arrested. The failure to make an arrest has led to public scepticism about the authorities’ willingness or capability to enforce the law effectively.
Zuma further stated that she believes the main perpetrator has not fled the country, suggesting that reports of their escape may be part of a deliberate narrative to avoid accountability. The continued activity of the syndicate, combined with possible internal assistance, highlights a serious lapse in national security protocols and the protection of political actors.
The activist’s revelation that accomplices reached the hospital reinforces the perception of an ongoing threat. Zuma called for urgent measures to strengthen security for Hadi and other potential targets. She insisted that the entire network be apprehended alive to ensure justice and deter future attacks, warning that the patience of political activists is finite.
This incident has broader implications for Bangladesh’s political climate, reflecting both the perils of political engagement and potential systemic weaknesses in law enforcement. The audacity and organisation of the attackers illustrate a need for reassessment of security protocols for political candidates and civic leaders across the country.
