The Manikganj District Intelligence Branch (DIB) has successfully apprehended the primary suspect in a case involving the severe physical and sexual assault of a five-year-old child in the Singair sub-district. The individual, identified as 45-year-old Moti Bepari, was taken into custody on Tuesday, 5 May, following a coordinated operation that crossed district boundaries.
According to official police reports, the arrest was executed in the Deoghata area, located within the jurisdiction of the Mirzapur Police Station in the Tangail district. The DIB utilised advanced information technology and surveillance methods to track the suspect’s movements after he fled his residence. Moti Bepari, the son of Md. Subur Ali Bepari, is a resident of Madhabpur village in the Chandahar Union of Singair Upazila.
Details of the Reported Incident
The circumstances surrounding the case were meticulously detailed in the First Information Report (FIR) and substantiated by testimonies from the victim’s family. Documentation reveals that approximately six years ago, Moti Bepari entered into a marriage with a woman who was then pregnant. Six months after the union, the woman gave birth to a daughter, whom Bepari had subsequently raised as his stepdaughter.
The alleged assault took place on the night of Friday, 1 May. The victim’s mother stated that the family had retired for the evening at approximately 11:00 pm. The prosecution alleges that at roughly 2:00 am, the suspect administered a sedative or anaesthetic substance to his wife to render her unconscious. It was during this period of forced incapacitation that he reportedly subjected the five-year-old child to a brutal assault.
The mother regained consciousness upon hearing the child’s cries of distress and found the minor in a state of severe physical agony. She further alleged that upon confronting Bepari, he subjected her to verbal abuse and threats of violence before fleeing the residence under the cover of darkness.
Medical Intervention and Clinical Status
Following the discovery of the assault on Saturday morning, the child was immediately transported to the Singair Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition. Whilst medical officers at the local facility provided emergency primary care, the severity of the injuries necessitated a referral to the Manikganj District General Hospital for advanced clinical intervention.
Hospital authorities have confirmed that the victim remains under the intensive observation of a specialised medical team. Forensic examinations are currently being conducted to gather vital biological evidence essential for the upcoming judicial proceedings. The district medical board has stated that the child’s recovery and psychological welfare remain their primary focus.
Legal Action and Investigative Progress
A formal case was registered at the Singair Police Station on Monday, 4 May, by the mother of the victim. Speaking to the press, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singair Police Station, Md. Mazharul Islam, confirmed that an immediate manhunt was initiated under the stringent sections of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
“Following the filing of the case on 4 May, our teams commenced a series of raids to apprehend the perpetrator. By leveraging technological tools and the assistance of the District Intelligence Branch, we managed to pinpoint his location in Tangail,” stated OC Mazharul Islam.
The suspect was successfully tracked from Manikganj to the neighbouring Tangail district, where he was eventually cornered. The police have confirmed that the process of producing the accused before the court is currently underway. The prosecution is expected to seek a period of police remand to further investigate the specifics of the assault and identify the source of the sedative allegedly used during the commission of the crime. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to a rigorous legal pursuit to ensure justice for the minor.
