Police have retrieved the body of a 31-year-old nail artist from her residence in the capital’s Bailey Road area, following an apparent suicide linked to severe domestic friction.
The deceased has been identified as Jeba Adiba, daughter of Abul Ahsan, originating from the New Eskaton neighbourhood in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel police division. Officers from Ramna Police Station recovered her hanging body at approximately 11:00 am on Monday, 10 August, from a flat situated along the KFC alley on Bailey Road. Following initial procedures at the scene, law enforcement dispatched the body to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue on Monday evening for a post-mortem examination.
Emergency Response and Preliminary Findings
Police responded to an urgent phone call placed to the national emergency helpline, 999, which alerted local officers to an unresponsive individual inside the flat. Upon entering the premises, police found Adiba hanging from a ceiling fan inside her bedroom.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman of Ramna Police Station, who led the responding officers, stated that early enquiries indicate acute psychological distress brought on by persistent marital disputes. Investigating officers revealed that prior to hanging herself, Adiba is suspected to have consumed rat poison earlier that morning.
Family sources and initial police checks revealed that Adiba had married for a second time. Following a divorce from her first husband, she married a man named Tanay. However, the union was reportedly troubled, characterized by frequent arguments driven by marital jealousy and mistrust.
Forensic Inquiries and Investigation
Struggling under continuous domestic discord, Adiba had been experiencing severe depression leading up to her death. Investigators are interviewing family members, relatives, and neighbours to establish the precise sequence of events on Monday morning.
