Prime Minister to Launch National Tree Plantation Campaign & ‘Tree Fair 2022’ Tomorrow

Dhaka, June 4, 2022 (BSS) – The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is set to host a month-long National Tree Plantation Campaign and a week-long ‘Tree Fair 2022’ across Bangladesh, aligning with the observance of World Environment Day.

The campaign and fair aim to inspire sustainable environmental practices, encourage social forestry, and promote biodiversity conservation.

Inauguration Details

  • Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will virtually inaugurate the events from her official residence, Ganabhaban, on 5 June 2022.
  • The formal opening ceremony will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
  • The announcement was made by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin at a press briefing on 2 June 2022.

In his statement, the President emphasised:

  • The critical role of trees in preserving the environment, preventing deforestation, protecting biodiversity, and averting natural disasters.
  • The need to plant fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings suitable for Bangladesh’s soil and climate.
  • The importance of public awareness and proper tree nurturing techniques to ensure the campaign’s success.
