RAB Detains Suspects in Fatal Attack on Kadamtali Businessman

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended two individuals in connection with the horrific slaying of Sahabuddin, a local entrepreneur involved in the scrap metal and gas cylinder trade. The arrests follow a swift and intensive “shadow investigation” by the elite force after the victim was ambushed and hacked to death in the capital’s Kadamtali district earlier this week.

The Fatal Ambush on Adarsha Road

The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local business community, occurred late on Tuesday, 6 January 2026. Sahabuddin was set upon by a group of assailants in the Adarsha Road area of Kadamtali. According to RAB officials, the primary suspect, identified as Mohammad Shahidul, along with several accomplices, intercepted the trader as part of a long-running personal feud.

The brutality of the attack was compounded by the assailants’ escape tactics. Witnesses reported that after inflicting fatal wounds with sharp weapons, the gang detonated a series of crude bombs (cocktails) to create a diversion. The explosions prevented immediate intervention by bystanders, allowing the attackers to vanish into the night. Sahabuddin was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead.

Swift Action by RAB-10

In the wake of the murder, the victim’s wife filed a formal case at the local police station, naming several suspects. RAB-10 immediately deployed intelligence assets to track the perpetrators. On Wednesday, the elite unit successfully apprehended two key figures during a targeted raid in Kadamtali.

Motive and Community Impact

The investigation suggests that the murder was not a random act of violence but the culmination of a bitter, pre-existing dispute between Shahidul and the victim. Sahabuddin was a well-regarded figure in the Jurain and Muradpur neighbourhoods, where he operated his business from his ancestral home.

Residents have expressed growing alarm over the brazen use of explosives in residential areas. A local shopkeeper, who requested anonymity, noted that the use of “cocktails” suggests a level of premeditation designed to intimidate the entire neighbourhood.

RAB officials have confirmed that the two suspects are currently being interrogated to uncover the location of the murder weapons and to identify other members of the gang who remain at large. The case has now been handed over to the local police for further legal proceedings.
