A woman from central Bangladesh has given birth to rare quintuplets, all of whom have returned home in stable condition following five days of hospital care, bringing joy and astonishment to her local community.
Masuma Akhter (30), a resident of Digabo village in Tok Union under Kapasia Upazila in Gazipur District, was discharged on Friday afternoon (10 April) along with her five newborns after receiving treatment at a specialist medical facility in Dhaka.
According to family sources, she was admitted on 5 April after experiencing labour pains and was transferred to the Bangladesh Medical University Hospital in Dhaka for advanced obstetric care. Under close supervision of specialist doctors, she delivered five babies—three boys and two girls—through medical intervention. Both the mother and all newborns are reported to be healthy and out of danger.
Medical professionals involved in the case described the delivery as highly unusual but encouraging in terms of neonatal outcomes. Dr Kamruzzaman Selim noted that in multiple births of this nature, low birth weight and medical complications are typically significant concerns. However, in this case, the combined weight of the quintuplets is around 8 kilograms, which is considered comparatively favourable.
He further added that each infant weighed between 1.4 and 1.5 kilograms at birth, a notably positive indicator for survival and early development in such high-order multiple births.
Birth Details
| Baby | Sex | Approximate Birth Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Baby 1 | Male | 1.4 kg |
| Baby 2 | Male | 1.5 kg |
| Baby 3 | Male | 1.4 kg |
| Baby 4 | Female | 1.4 kg |
| Baby 5 | Female | 1.5 kg |
News of the rare quintuplet birth quickly spread across Digabo village, drawing large crowds of curious well-wishers to the family home of Masuma Akhter and her husband, Kajal Mia (45). Residents from surrounding areas have also been visiting to catch a glimpse of the newborns, turning the household into a focal point of local excitement and celebration.
Social media platforms have further amplified the story, with many users expressing admiration and offering congratulations to the family. The event has become a subject of nationwide discussion due to its rarity and the positive health condition of both mother and children.
Despite widespread media interest, the parents have chosen not to give interviews at this stage, prioritising the health, privacy and well-being of their children. Family members have stated that their immediate focus remains on ensuring proper care and a stable environment for the newborn quintuplets.
Medical experts suggest that continued monitoring will be essential in the coming weeks, particularly to support healthy growth and development, but the early prognosis remains encouraging.
