Ronaldo’s Hamstring Injury Sparks Portugal Concern

As the FIFA World Cup approaches, Portugal faces uncertainty over the fitness of its captain and record-breaking forward, Cristiano Ronaldo. The 41-year-old has suffered a hamstring injury that is reportedly more serious than first anticipated, raising concerns about his availability for upcoming international fixtures. Al Nassr coach Jorge Jesus confirmed the severity of the injury on Friday.

Ronaldo sustained the injury during Al Nassr’s 3-1 league victory over Al Fayha last week, leaving the field prematurely. He has since travelled to Madrid to undergo specialised treatment, putting his World Cup preparations under scrutiny.

Ahead of Al Nassr’s home match against Neom SC on Saturday, Jesus commented:

“Cristiano had to leave the previous game due to a muscular injury. After comprehensive tests, it has become evident that the injury is more serious than we initially thought. He requires both rest and treatment, which he will receive in Spain under his personal physiotherapist’s supervision. This is standard procedure for any player in a similar situation.”

Although no specific timetable for his return has been confirmed, there is cautious optimism that Ronaldo will be fit for Portugal’s international friendlies later this month.

Portugal’s upcoming fixtures are:

  • 28 March: vs Mexico at Azteca Stadium

  • 31 March: vs United States in Atlanta

Ronaldo continues to excel in the Saudi Pro League despite his injury. He is currently third in the top scorers’ chart with 21 goals, trailing Al Ahli’s Ivan Toney, who leads with 24 goals. Al Nassr, meanwhile, has relinquished the top spot in the league table, falling one point behind Al Ahli.

Ronaldo’s injury casts a shadow over Portugal’s World Cup campaign, but the forward remains determined to recover in time to continue his pursuit of international records. His treatment in Spain under expert supervision aims to ensure he returns to full fitness for both club and country commitments.
