Following the widespread global success of their official World Cup opening ceremony performance of ‘Sir Sir’, Bangladeshi-American DJ and music producer Sanjoy Deb and Bollywood star Nora Fatehi are collaborating once again. The duo have announced the upcoming release of their new track, ‘Champion’, scheduled to debut on 29 June. The previous anthem sparked immense enthusiasm among football and music enthusiasts worldwide, and this latest project aims to capitalise on that momentum.
Speaking to Prothom Alo from Dallas on Saturday morning, Sanjoy shared insights into the creative philosophy behind the new track. He explained that ‘Champion’ is designed to convey a universal message of victory, celebration, and self-belief.
“This is not merely a song about winning a sports match,” Sanjoy remarked. “It is an anthem dedicated to celebrating any life achievement and the success that follows personal struggle. We want listeners to feel inspired and absorb positive energy. ‘Champion’ is intended to evoke the feeling of being a winner in everyone.”
Sanjoy has taken on a comprehensive role in the creation of the track, serving as the lyricist, composer, and music director. The production process spanned roughly two months. From its inception, the duo strategically planned to release the track whilst the World Cup fervour remained at its peak.
The visual component of the project matches the ambition of the music. The music video for ‘Champion’ was filmed on location in Zanzibar, Tanzania, an East African destination renowned for its picturesque coastlines.
The logistical execution of the shoot was remarkably swift. Sanjoy and Fatehi travelled to the island for a brief two-day window, successfully compressing the entire filming schedule into a single day of intensive work. According to Sanjoy, the captivating natural landscape and ocean views of Zanzibar have added a unique, cinematic dimension to the video’s presentation.
Promotional campaigns are already underway across various digital networks. In a recent social media update, Fatehi directly engaged her audience, asking, “Are you all ready for ‘Champion’?” The interactive promotions have significantly heightened anticipation among their collective fanbase.
Amidst his heavy promotional schedule, Sanjoy is also immersing himself in the live World Cup atmosphere. He attended the highly anticipated fixture between Argentina and Jordan at the stadium in Dallas. This match marked his third live stadium experience of the current tournament, having previously watched Canada play Bosnia, and Spain face Saudi Arabia from the stands.
However, this specific fixture held profound personal significance for the producer, as it offered him his first opportunity to watch Lionel Messi perform live from the stadium galleries.
“Messi is a living legend,” Sanjoy stated. “I have watched his matches on television countless times, but witnessing his play inside a stadium is a completely different sensation. As a dedicated football fan, this is going to be an unforgettable experience.”
