In a shocking incident in Natore, a 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly fatally attacking his father with a sharp weapon. The accused, identified as Apu, was apprehended on Tuesday night by a joint team of Detective Branch (DB) and local police in his native village.
Following his arrest, authorities recovered the weapon reportedly used in the assault. The victim, Moharam Ali, sustained severe injuries in the early hours of Tuesday while at home. Neighbours rushed him to hospital, but despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries around midday.
Apu is the son of the deceased, who hailed from Hasimpur village in Natore Sadar Upazila. Moharam Ali was the son of the late Mohr Ali of the same area. Professionally, he was a vendor of traditional leather products (“chotpoti”) and had been conducting business at Kafuria Market for many years.
Police and local sources indicated that the attack took place while Moharam Ali was alone at home. Witnesses reported seeing him lying bloodied on the floor after the assault, prompting them to intervene and transport him to hospital.
Neighbours noted that family tensions had existed for some time. Sufia Begum, a local resident, explained that Moharam Ali’s wife and children had been living separately due to ongoing familial disputes, leaving him to live alone.
The Officer-in-Charge of Natore Sadar Police Station, Shafiqul Islam, confirmed that the victim had multiple lacerations to his head and face caused by a sharp instrument. “The post-mortem report will provide definitive clarity on the cause of death,” he stated. Apu was formally remanded to jail on Wednesday, 25 March, following a court hearing.
