Renowned Bangladeshi singer Subir Nandi, who passed away in Singapore in 2020 while undergoing medical treatment, continues to captivate music lovers even half a decade after his death. Several of his recordings remained unreleased at the time of his passing, and efforts are now underway to bring these hidden gems to the public.
Before his death, Nandi lent his voice to eleven songs composed by Tanvir Tarek, a National Film Award-winning music director. These tracks, spanning a variety of musical styles, are now being released gradually, keeping Nandi’s extraordinary legacy alive.
The latest release in this series is a poignant, melancholic track titled “Amar Ayu Niye Bacho” (“Live for My Life”), with lyrics penned by celebrated songwriter Zahid Akbar. The song, which blends elements of romantic sadness with melodic sophistication, has been released on the ‘Sounds of Tanvir’ official YouTube channel. Simultaneously, it is being distributed across more than fifty international digital platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify, making it accessible to a global audience.
Speaking about the track, Tanvir Tarek said:
“Working on these songs with Subir was one of the most treasured projects of my life. Each track features acoustic instrumentation to preserve a timeless sound. For ‘Amar Ayu Niye Bacho’, the renowned subcontinental sitarist Rahul Mukhopadhyay performed the sitar parts. The lyrics are exquisite, and of course, Subir’s voice speaks for itself. Even in today’s age of reels and TikTok, there remain listeners who cherish melody and emotional resonance. This song is for them.”
Zahid Akbar, the lyricist, added:
“I always feel comfortable working with Tanvir’s compositions. I did not know this particular song had been recorded with Subir’s voice. I had assumed it was never laid down in the studio. Listening to it now, years later, has been an overwhelming experience. I believe audiences will be equally moved, again and again.”
Initially, a lyric video of the song has been released, with plans for a full thematic music video to follow. Recording and production of the track took place at studios in Dhaka and Kolkata, with mixing and mastering completed in Las Vegas to ensure international audio quality.
The technical details of the production are summarised below:
