DHAKA, 3 March 2025 (BSS) – Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has stated that the supply of soybean oil is expected to return to normal within the next two days.
“There is no shortage of daily necessities. The supply of soybean oil is slightly lower than usual, which is acknowledged. However, I am optimistic that the situation will improve from today,” he remarked after visiting the Mohammadpur Town Hall Raw Market in the city, as reported in a press release.
Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan also joined the visit.
In response to a question, Bashir clarified that only soybean oil is being sold at higher prices, while palm oil is being sold at a price Taka 25 lower than the price set by the government.
“Sixty percent of our total edible oil is palm oil. While the price of palm oil has decreased, the price of soybean oil has risen simultaneously. I believe the price of soybean oil will also decrease soon,” he added.
In response to another query, Adilur Rahman Khan mentioned that the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is conducting mobile courts during the holy month of Ramadan to ensure product quality and prevent food adulteration.
“Today, mobile courts were held in four markets,” he stated.
Also present at the occasion were Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman.
