BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has openly expressed his deep concern for the health of his mother, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, acknowledging that political realities are preventing him from returning to Bangladesh. His latest statement adds a new perspective to the ongoing discussions about the deteriorating health of the former Prime Minister.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Tarique Rahman described Khaleda Zia’s condition as critical, revealing that she is currently receiving treatment in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of AirCare Hospital. He highlighted the outpouring of prayers and support from citizens across the country, expressing gratitude for the compassion shown by people from all walks of life. “The people of Bangladesh have shown immense empathy and continue to pray for my mother’s recovery. I sincerely thank them for their heartfelt support,” he wrote.
He also noted the concern and assistance extended by the Chief Adviser, who has not only prayed for her well-being but has also pledged full support for her treatment. Tarique Rahman emphasized that medical teams from both Bangladesh and abroad are working tirelessly to provide the highest level of care, employing advanced medical procedures and monitoring her condition closely. He mentioned that several friendly countries have expressed willingness to assist with state-of-the-art medical support if necessary.
On a personal note, Tarique Rahman conveyed his deep longing to be with his mother during this difficult period. “Like any child, I wish to be close to my mother at such a time. Her condition is a source of immense anxiety for me,” he stated. However, he made it clear that returning to Bangladesh is not a decision he can make independently due to the sensitive political environment. He refrained from commenting further on the political complexities but stressed that the family hopes the situation will stabilize, allowing him to return without obstacles.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to AirCare Hospital on 23 November after doctors diagnosed her with a lung infection. Since then, she has been under continuous observation in the CCU, with a dedicated medical board closely monitoring her progress. Her treatment involves a combination of specialized care and constant medical supervision to ensure her condition does not worsen.
Tarique Rahman’s statement underscores not only his personal anguish but also the broader concerns surrounding Khaleda Zia’s health, which has drawn attention from political circles, the general public, and international observers alike. His acknowledgment of the political challenges involved in returning home highlights the complex intersection of health and politics in Bangladesh’s current climate.
He concluded by sharing the family’s hope that, once the political situation stabilizes, his prolonged wait to be with his mother will finally end. The statement reflects both the personal and political dimensions of a situation that has captured nationwide attention, emphasizing the emotional strain on the family while underscoring the ongoing professional medical efforts to ensure her recovery.
As the nation continues to follow developments regarding Khaleda Zia’s health, Tarique Rahman’s heartfelt message serves as a reminder of the human side of political life, showing that behind public roles and responsibilities, family ties and personal care remain deeply significant.
