Teacher Dies of Suspected Heart Attack in Fuel Queue

A 32-year-old school teacher died in Rangpur on Saturday afternoon after reportedly suffering a heart attack while waiting in a queue to collect fuel at a petrol station, in an incident that has left the local community in shock.

The incident took place at Surma Fuel Pump in the Tourist Motel area of Rangpur city, where long queues had formed for fuel distribution. The deceased has been identified as Mehedi Hasan, son of Motiur Rahman from New Engineer Para in the city. He was serving as a teacher at Lahiri Hat Government Primary School and was also a former student of the Department of Statistics at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur.

According to family members, Mehedi Hasan had gone to the petrol station in the afternoon to collect fuel when he joined the queue like other customers. While standing in line under the sun, he suddenly collapsed. Witnesses at the scene rushed to his aid before he was taken to Rangpur Prime Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Officials at the petrol pump said the incident occurred suddenly and without warning. A tag officer present at the site, Mah-e-Alam, described the moment the teacher collapsed while waiting in line.

“While he was standing in the queue for fuel, he suddenly fell to the ground. He was immediately taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed his death,” he said.

Law enforcement authorities also confirmed the incident. Rangpur Metropolitan Police Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Azad Rahman stated that police had been informed about the death of a man while waiting in a fuel queue and that further details were being collected.

The sudden death has sparked concern among locals, particularly given the intense heat conditions and long waiting times often associated with fuel distribution queues in the area. Many residents have pointed out the physical strain caused by prolonged standing, especially during peak hours.
