Ishwardi, Pabna – The body of Fosiul Alam Anik, a 22-year-old leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra Dal, was recovered in a hanging position at a rented room in Diyar Sahapur village, Sahapur Union, on Sunday evening (11 January). The discovery has left the local community shocked and raised questions about the circumstances of his death.
Anik, the son of Mahidul Islam Rana of the same village, was a student at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in Dhaka. He also served as the vice-president of a ward unit of the Chhatra Dal under the Dhaka Metropolitan Khilgaon Police Station.
According to police and local sources, although Anik had been residing in Dhaka for his studies, he recently rented a room at Ruhul Driver’s house near his native village. On Sunday evening, when neighbours received no response from him for an extended period, they reported the matter to the Ishwardi Police Station. Upon arrival, police broke down the door and found Anik’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Witnesses reported that while Anik appeared to be hanging, his right foot rested on a bed and his left foot touched the floor. The room’s door was locked from the inside. The unusual positioning of the body and the surrounding circumstances have led to speculation and raised questions within the local community.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mominuzzaman stated that the body had been recovered and that the exact cause of death could not be determined immediately. “The body has been sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Once the report is available, the precise cause of death will be established. Necessary legal action will be taken following the investigation,” he said.
