In a shocking incident early on Wednesday, 4 February, the body of 37-year-old revenue officer Junaid Saki was discovered in front of the 250-bed Naogaon General Hospital. Police recovered the body at approximately 5:30 a.m., hours after he had reportedly gone missing while travelling to meet his wife.
Junaid Saki, who served as an Assistant Revenue Officer at the Dhaka Revenue Board, hailed from Pirojpur district in Barisal. According to his family and hospital sources, he had been travelling from Dhaka by train and disembarked at Santahar Railway Junction en route to Mahadevpur in Naogaon to meet his wife. However, he never reached his destination.
Eyewitnesses and hospital staff reported that his severely injured body was discovered inside a yellow pickup van, which had been abandoned in front of the hospital. The vehicle fled the scene immediately after leaving the body. Hospital employees quickly intervened, carrying Saki to the emergency department, where attending physicians declared him dead.
Dr. Rehnuma Munmun, the duty physician at the 250-bed Naogaon General Hospital’s emergency unit, stated, “The body appears to have suffered injuries consistent with a road accident. This is our preliminary assessment.” She confirmed that the family and local police were informed promptly.
Assistant Commissioner of Naogaon Customs, Md. Rashed, commented, “We initially believe that he may have been killed in a road accident while travelling from Santahar to Naogaon. The matter has been communicated to his family, who arrived at the hospital immediately.”
Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Niyamul Haque confirmed that police visited the scene to investigate. “The victim’s wife has lodged an official complaint. We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and will take appropriate action based on our findings,” he said.
The preliminary facts reported by authorities can be summarised as follows:

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Junaid Saki | 37 | Assistant Revenue Officer, Dhaka Revenue Board | Pirojpur, Barisal | In front of Naogaon General Hospital | Yellow pickup van | 5:30 a.m., 4 Feb |
