Schoolboy Killed in Narsingdi Clash Over Territory

A tragic escalation of local tensions in Raipur Upazila, Narsingdi, claimed the life of a 14-year-old schoolboy, Mustakim Mia, early on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. in the Saydabad area of Srinagar Union, amid violent clashes between rival groups contesting territorial dominance.

Mustakim, a seventh-grade student at a local school, was the son of Masud Rana, a resident currently working in Saudi Arabia. His untimely death has plunged his family and the local community into mourning.

According to police and family sources, the conflict in Saydabad’s riverside settlements had been simmering for months between two factions. On Wednesday morning, followers of Ershad Mia reportedly launched an armed attack, including firearms and traditional weapons, on the residence of Hanif Master’s supporters. The confrontation quickly escalated into a fierce gunfight. During the clash, Mustakim was shot and killed at the scene.

Speaking to reporters, Mustakim’s mother, Shahana Begum, said, “My son had just stepped out into the courtyard when he was shot. We are not affiliated with any group. I demand exemplary justice for those who have taken my child from me.”

Dr Bimal Chandra Dhar, an emergency doctor at Raipur Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that Mustakim was brought in with a gunshot wound to the left side of his body. The bullet had passed through, and despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mujibur Rahman verified the incident and stated that additional police forces have been deployed to the area. “An operation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. We urge the public to remain calm and avoid panic,” he added.

Local residents are calling for heightened security measures, swift legal action against the perpetrators, and assurances that such violent confrontations do not recur in the community.
