The government will provide milk, eggs, and meat at lower prices to one million families during Ramadan.

In a significant initiative aimed at supporting low-income households during the holy month of Ramadan, the Government of Bangladesh has announced the sale of milk, eggs, and meat at subsidised rates to approximately one million families. The programme, designed to ensure adequate protein intake among vulnerable populations, will operate at 25 designated locations across Dhaka.

The scheme was officially inaugurated on Thursday, 19 February, at the Livestock Research Institute in Mohakhali, Dhaka. Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, highlighted the government’s commitment to improving nutritional standards for economically disadvantaged families.

“This year, one million families will have access to milk, eggs, and meat at reduced prices. Sales have already begun at key locations including Uttara, Azimpur, and Mirpur, and will continue throughout the entire month of Ramadan,” the minister said.

In addition to addressing immediate nutritional needs, the minister outlined plans to implement Family Cards, Agriculture Cards, and Health Cards as part of the government’s broader agenda to fulfil its election pledges. Emphasising transparency and efficiency, he added that “the programme will focus on honesty, dedication, and coordinated teamwork to meet the public’s expectations.”

The inauguration was presided over by Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services. Special guests included Abu Taher Muhammad Zaber, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock; Mashiur Rahman, President of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC); and Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, President of the Bangladesh Cattle and Fattening Farmers Association (BCFFA). Senior officials from the ministry and the Department of Livestock Services were also present.

The government has provided a preliminary breakdown of the subsidised products and their target distribution points as follows:
