The Romantic Chemistry Of Sunerah And Rehan Against A Nepalese Backdrop

Nestled within Nepal’s Mustang district, Jomsom is a town that appears lifted from a dreamscape. Situated at an altitude of around 2,760 metres above sea level on the banks of the famed Kali Gandaki River, Jomsom is widely regarded as one of Nepal’s most snow-prone urban areas. Surrounded by snow-draped mountains, expansive blue skies and an almost meditative stillness, the town offers a rare harmony between nature and solitude. For decades, this dramatic landscape has attracted Indian and South Asian filmmakers, making Jomsom a favoured shooting destination for several well-known Bollywood productions.

Against this striking backdrop, two popular faces from Bangladesh’s entertainment industry—Sunerah Binte Kamal and Farrukh Ahmed Rehan—have recently completed filming a musical project that marks their first on-screen pairing. The musical film, titled O Jaan, was shot entirely in and around Jomsom under extreme weather conditions, with temperatures ranging between minus 8 and minus 10 degrees Celsius. For a Bangladeshi production team, such an environment represented a rare and demanding challenge, pushing both cast and crew far beyond their usual working conditions.

O Jaan brings together a strong creative team. The song is performed by vocalists Konal and Niloy, with lyrics penned by Asif Iqbal. The composition is a collaborative effort between Dhaka-based composer Avral Sahir and Kolkata’s Lincoln, while the musical arrangement has been handled by Avral Sahir himself. Direction duties were undertaken by Tanvir Rahman Anshu, who reunites with the team to deliver a visually rich and emotionally driven musical narrative.

Speaking about the experience, Sunerah Binte Kamal described Nepal as breathtakingly beautiful, with Jomsom possessing an almost otherworldly charm. She noted, however, that filming in sub-zero temperatures was physically demanding and required considerable endurance. Despite these challenges, she believes the experience will remain a lifelong memory. According to her, audiences will not only connect with the song but also fall in love with the location itself, as the visuals evoke the scale and grandeur of a big-canvas Bollywood musical.

Actor Farrukh Ahmed Rehan echoed similar sentiments, calling the opportunity to shoot cinematically in Nepal an extraordinary experience. He highlighted the strong synergy between the song’s lyrics and its visual storytelling, noting that such cohesion is rarely seen in conventional music videos. While the cold presented moments of discomfort during filming, Rehan said the beauty of the final visuals made those hardships worthwhile. He expressed satisfaction at being able to present such a distinctive project to audiences at the very start of the year.

The musical film O Jaan is scheduled for release on 30 January on Gaanchill Music’s YouTube channel, promising viewers a blend of romance, music and the awe-inspiring beauty of Nepal.
