A wave of alarm has swept through Bogura after three separate হত্যাকাণ্ড within as many days left residents fearful and demanding swift justice. None of the incidents has yet been fully resolved, deepening public concern over law and order in the district.
The most recent killing occurred on the night of 14 February in Sondabari Purbo Para, under Gabtali Upazila. Saiful Islam (40), a local transport entrepreneur, was found with his throat slit in a grassy plot beside his home.
According to family members, Mr Islam had once worked as a truck driver before establishing his own transport enterprise. Through years of steady work, he acquired a fleet of seven trucks, operating both small and heavy vehicles. Returning home late at night after supervising his business was part of his routine.
When he failed to return by Sunday morning and his mobile phone was found switched off, relatives began searching. His bloodied body was later discovered on land to the north of his house. Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Anisur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Gabtali Police Station, stated that the motive had not yet been confirmed. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Mohammad Raihan said there were multiple stab wounds to the victim’s throat, head and other parts of the body. While a business dispute is being considered as a possible motive, investigators are examining all angles. Several police teams have been assigned to the case.
Two Earlier Killings
On 13 February, 16-year-old mechanic Alif Shah was found murdered at his father’s garage in the Nishindara Tank Sanko area of Bogura town. He had suffered 11 stab wounds. His father, Ripon Shah, lodged a case at the local police station against unidentified assailants, but no arrests have yet been made.
Earlier on 14 February, at approximately 9:00 am, 19-year-old construction worker Fahim Hossain was fatally stabbed at Matidali Biman Mor in Sadar Upazila. According to family members, he was attacked after protesting against the harassment of his elder sister. Police have launched operations to apprehend suspects, including a youth named Tanoy (19).
