The Conflict Over Contested Ground
The victim, young Noor Abdullah, was the son of Nurul Alam Russell. For over fifteen years, the family had been embroiled in a bitter legal battle with their neighbour, Deen Islam, over the ownership and development of a specific plot of land. Despite a standing court injunction prohibiting any construction on the site, the dispute reached a violent breaking point on Wednesday morning.
According to Nurul Alam, the child’s father, Deen Islam and his brother Ariful began construction work at approximately 11:00 AM, in direct defiance of the judicial order. When the child’s mother and grandmother intervened to halt the illegal work, the situation spiralled into a heated confrontation.

A Barbaric Act of Violence
The victim’s grandmother, Jyotsna Ara Begum, recounted the final moments of the altercation with palpable grief. She alleged that Deen Islam initially assaulted the child’s mother, Rupa Akter. In a fit of uncontrollable rage, he then reportedly seized the three-year-old Abdullah and slammed him onto the ground with lethal force.
“He targeted a helpless child to settle a score over a piece of earth,” a relative remarked. Following the assault, the family rushed the unresponsive toddler to the Upazila Health Complex, but medical staff confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries before arrival.
Police Investigation and Manhunt
Kazi Nazmul Haque, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jorarganj Police Station, confirmed that a criminal case is being processed. While three individuals have been detained for questioning, the primary suspect, Deen Islam, and his brother Ariful Islam managed to flee the village immediately following the attack.
The authorities have dispatched the body to Chattogram Medical College for a comprehensive post-mortem examination to provide forensic evidence for the murder trial. The OC assured the public that multiple police units are currently conducting raids to apprehend the absconding brothers. This tragedy serves as a grim reminder of how unresolved civil disputes can ferment into irreparable criminal violence when legal mandates are ignored.
