Tragedy in Ashulia as Expatriate’s Wife Slain on Rooftop

In a chilling incident reflecting the growing vulnerabilities within rapidly expanding suburban hubs, a 40-year-old woman was brutally murdered on the rooftop of her family’s residence in the industrial belt of Ashulia, situated on the outskirts of the capital. The victim, identified as Roksana Begum, was discovered with multiple sharp-weapon injuries on the roof of her family’s under-construction five-storey property in the Morichkata area of North Koltasuti, under Shimulia Union.

The horrific discovery was made late on Wednesday night, prompting an immediate investigation by local authorities. Sub-Inspector Nur Amin of Ashulia Police Station confirmed on Thursday morning that law enforcement officers had recovered the body and dispatched it to a hospital morgue for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Detectives hope the autopsy report will clarify the exact nature and timeline of her death.

Roksana Begum was the wife of Mokbul Hossain, a native of South Pakulla village in Kaliakair Upazila, Gazipur, who currently works in Dubai. For the past two months, Roksana had been residing on the third floor of the partially completed building alongside her son, Alif, and daughter, Meem.

According to family members, Roksana went up to the roof at approximately 7:30 pm on Wednesday to inspect the building’s water tank—a routine domestic task. When she failed to return after an unusually long period, her children grew concerned and raised the alarm. Relatives searched the premises and eventually ascended to the roof, where they found Roksana’s stripped and lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, bearing violent wounds across various parts of her torso and limbs.

Hearing the frantic cries of the family, neighbours rushed to the scene and alerted the police. Officers from Ashulia Police Station and members of the Detective Branch (DB) arrived shortly thereafter, conducting initial forensic assessments before transporting the body to the police station at around 2:30 am.

The victim’s brother, Mo. Irak, recalled speaking with his sister over the mobile phone around 7:00 pm, just thirty minutes before she went up to the roof. By 9:30 pm, he received the devastating news of her demise. Expressing sheer disbelief, Irak stated that Roksana maintained no known rivalries or disputes with anyone, making the sudden targetting of his sister baffling. He called upon the authorities to apprehend the culprits without delay and ensure exemplary justice.

Law enforcement agencies are currently assessing all potential angles. Given that the family resided in an under-construction building, security gaps at the entry and exit points, as well as access pathways to the roof, are forming a critical component of the inquiry. Investigators are also scrutinising whether the victim was targetted by someone familiar with her daily routine or if opportunist intruders breached the site. A formal murder case is being filed at Ashulia Police Station as operations continue to identify and detain those responsible.
