A devastating road accident in Shivpuri district of India’s Madhya Pradesh has claimed the lives of four members of a newlywed family, casting a deep shadow of grief over the entire region. What began as a moment of celebration swiftly turned into an unimaginable tragedy within 24 hours of a wedding ceremony.
According to local reports, 25-year-old Virendra Shakya married Rajeshwari Shakya on Saturday in a temple ceremony attended by close family members. The couple, still in the early hours of their married life, was travelling back home on Sunday morning when disaster struck. They were accompanied by Virendra’s mother, Anvesh Shakya (50), and his sister-in-law, Rajo Shakya (22), as they made their journey in a small autorickshaw.
While en route, a truck loaded with poultry feed reportedly lost control, overturned, and fell directly onto the stationary autorickshaw by the roadside. The impact was so severe that all four occupants of the vehicle died on the spot. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with no immediate possibility of survival for those trapped beneath the heavy vehicle.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the truck approaching at speed before suddenly veering off balance and toppling within seconds, crushing the autorickshaw beneath its weight. The abruptness of the crash left bystanders in shock, many of whom rushed to assist but were unable to rescue the victims immediately due to the sheer mass of the overturned truck.
Two individuals narrowly escaped death: Virendra’s 19-year-old sister, Bhuria Shakya, and the autorickshaw driver. Both, however, are reported to be suffering from severe psychological trauma following the incident. Rescue operations were delayed as the truck’s weight made it difficult for locals to extract the bodies. A bulldozer was later brought in, and after nearly half an hour of effort, the wreckage was cleared and the victims’ bodies recovered.
The tragedy carries an even more heartbreaking dimension, as Bhuria Shakya was scheduled to become engaged the very next day. What was meant to be a period of multiple celebrations within the family has instead turned into a time of mourning and devastation.

Preliminary assessments suggest that excessive speed and loss of control of the truck were the primary causes of the accident. Local authorities have launched an official investigation and assured that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter road safety enforcement, particularly concerning heavy vehicles. Experts stress that adherence to speed regulations, regular vehicle maintenance, and stronger monitoring systems are essential to preventing such catastrophic accidents in the future.
