A 15-year-old boy has been killed in a tragic road accident after being crushed beneath a brick-laden trolley in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna district. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday in Kuabasi village, within the Failjana ইউনিয়ন, casting a pall of grief over the local community.
The deceased, Rony Hossain, was the son of Rubel Hossain, a resident of the same village. According to family members, Rony had been walking along a roadside near his home, as he did on most mornings. At that moment, a trolley transporting bricks approached from the opposite direction. Witnesses report that the vehicle suddenly lost control and veered off course, running over the teenager. He died instantly at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
In the immediate aftermath of the accident, the trolley driver fled the scene, preventing any immediate arrest. Local residents expressed anger and frustration, stating that such incidents have become increasingly common on rural roads.
Eyewitnesses highlighted that the reckless operation of heavy vehicles, particularly those used in brick kilns and construction work, has risen significantly in recent years. Many of these trolleys are reportedly overloaded and driven at unsafe speeds. A lack of proper driver training and insufficient enforcement of road safety regulations are widely seen as key contributing factors behind such fatal accidents.
The Officer-in-Charge of Chatmohar Police Station, Golam Mostofa, confirmed that police were dispatched to the site promptly after receiving reports of the incident. He stated that an investigation is currently underway and that legal action will be taken if a formal complaint is lodged by the victim’s family.
Road safety experts note that traffic accidents across various parts of Bangladesh have been increasing at an alarming rate. Weak enforcement of safety standards on rural roads, unfit vehicles operating without inspection, and frequent violations of traffic laws continue to exacerbate the situation. Strengthening monitoring mechanisms, ensuring regular vehicle fitness checks, and improving driver awareness are considered essential steps to prevent further tragedies.
