Two Held in Khulna with Foreign-Made Pistol, Ammunition

Two alleged armed criminals have been arrested with a foreign-made pistol, live ammunition and a magazine during a special operation in Khulna city, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said.

The arrests were made on Friday in the Islampara area under the jurisdiction of Labanchara Police Station. The operation was conducted by a team of RAB-6 as part of efforts to curb the circulation of illegal firearms and criminal activities in the area.

The two detainees have been identified as Nazim alias Nadim, 30, and Mohammad Masud Rana, 37. Major Mohammad Nazmul Islam, deputy commander of RAB-6, confirmed the arrests.

According to RAB sources, following the arrests, members of the elite force searched Nadim’s residence in the Labanchara area based on information provided during questioning. The search led to the recovery of one foreign-made pistol, four rounds of live ammunition, one spent cartridge and one magazine.

RAB officials said the two men were allegedly involved in various criminal activities in the area and were known as armed criminals. The recovery of a firearm and ammunition has prompted further legal action against them under Bangladesh’s arms laws.

Major Nazmul Islam said a case had been filed against the two detainees under the Arms Act. After the necessary legal procedures, the two men, along with the recovered firearm, ammunition and other seized items, were handed over to Labanchara Police Station in Khulna for further legal proceedings.

The case is now expected to be investigated by the police. As part of the process, investigators may examine the origin of the firearm, how it came into the possession of the accused and whether it was connected to any previous criminal activity. They may also seek to determine whether the detainees have links with other individuals involved in illegal arms possession or organised criminal activity.

The seizure comes amid continuing law enforcement efforts to prevent the use and circulation of illegal firearms. Unauthorised possession of firearms and ammunition is a serious offence under Bangladesh’s arms legislation and can lead to criminal prosecution.

The authorities have not provided further details about the alleged criminal activities of the two men. As the case proceeds, any allegations against them will be subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
