Two Separate Incidents of Heinous Assault Reported in Sylhet and Nilphamari

Law enforcement agencies have initiated rigorous investigations following two separate, harrowing incidents of sexual assault against women in Sylhet and Nilphamari. While a young housewife was targeted by her husband’s associates in Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila, a vulnerable young woman faced a similar ordeal in Nilphamari’s Domar upazila. Both cases have triggered swift legal actions and widespread public concern.
The incident in Sylhet unfolded when the victim, whose husband is currently imprisoned in connection with an ongoing legal case, found herself isolated and vulnerable. According to the police case details, the perpetrators lured her to an abandoned building located within the Nagar Dengri area of Doubari union on Thursday afternoon. Nehal Ahmed allegedly locked the door and assaulted her first, subsequently allowing his accomplices—identified as Md Masuk Ahmed, Zuber Ahmed, and Md Nizam Uddin—into the room to join the attack. Furthermore, the assailants recorded the harrowing assault on mobile devices.
Displaying remarkable courage amidst the trauma, the victim managed to dial the national emergency helpline number 999 to alert authorities. Acting swiftly upon the distress call, officers from Gowainghat Police Station launched a targeted operation, successfully apprehending Nehal and Masuk. Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Omar Faruque Morol confirmed that a formal case has been registered, and active efforts are underway to track down the remaining suspects involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, a parallel tragedy occurred in Nilphamari’s Domar upazila, targeting a young woman with a disability. The primary suspects, Arman Hossain and his teenage associate Laju, reportedly work as rod-binders in Dhaka. According to the victim’s sister-in-law, the suspects had initially set out towards a railway station alongside family members on an 8:00 PM train bound for the capital. However, Arman and Laju covertly returned under a premeditated plan, cutting through the mud-and-bamboo fence of the victim’s home around midnight.
As the attackers forced their way inside, the victim began to scream and fiercely resist, prompting the perpetrators to tear through the fencing and flee into the night. The victim’s brother, Subol, immediately contacted the Chilahati police investigation centre. Law enforcement units rushed to the scene, recovering crucial physical evidence, including the suspects’ abandoned luggage bags. The victim was subsequently escorted to the station for legal proceedings and a formal medical examination. Domar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Habibullah confirmed that a formal complaint had been lodged by the victim’s brother late Thursday night, ensuring that a thorough judicial process follows.
