Police have recovered the body of an unidentified woman from beside the service lane of the Bhanga–Dhaka Expressway in Faridpur district, prompting a suspected murder investigation.
The body was discovered at approximately 8:30am on Wednesday in the Middle Brahmanpara area of Azimnagar Union, under Bhanga upazila. According to local sources, several labourers and early-morning passers-by noticed a woman lying motionless by the roadside as they set out for work. On approaching, they realised she was unresponsive and immediately alerted Bhanga Police Station.
Officers arrived swiftly at the scene, secured the perimeter and began collecting preliminary forensic evidence. The body was later sent to the morgue of Faridpur Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Initial observations by the attending officers revealed visible injury marks around the woman’s neck and on her hands. The investigating sub-inspector stated that these signs suggest the possibility of death by strangulation. However, police emphasised that the precise cause of death will only be confirmed once the autopsy report is completed. Until then, the case is being treated as a suspicious homicide.
The Bhanga–Dhaka Expressway is a strategic transport corridor linking the south-western districts of Bangladesh with the capital, Dhaka. The highway carries substantial volumes of freight lorries, long-distance buses and private vehicles daily. Given its national importance, multiple surveillance cameras have been installed along toll plazas and key segments of the route.
Investigators have begun collecting and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby toll points and service lanes in an effort to identify any suspicious vehicles or individuals present around the estimated time of death. In parallel, neighbouring police stations and outposts have been alerted to assist in identifying the victim. Recent general diary entries relating to missing persons are also being scrutinised.
The deceased is believed to have been approximately 45 years old, though her identity has yet to be confirmed. Authorities have appealed to members of the public to come forward with any relevant information that may assist the investigation.
