A fish trader was killed in an attack reportedly carried out by members of a teenage gang in Barishal city on Friday. The incident took place at approximately 5:30 am in the Palashpur area under Ward No. 5 of the city.
The deceased has been identified as Babu Shikdar (30), son of Kalam Shikdar of the same area. According to family members, he was allegedly killed by a local teenage gang group led by an individual known as Madhu. Police have confirmed that two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Inspector Sanjit Chandra Nath, Officer-in-Charge of Kawnia Police Station under Barishal Metropolitan Police, stated that a man named Babu was killed in an attack by a teenage gang. He added that the incident may be linked to a dispute over narcotics, and that two suspects have been taken into custody.
The victim’s brother, Nayeem Shikdar, said that his brother had been subjected to repeated extortion demands from Madhu. He further stated that the dispute had been ongoing for some time. On Friday morning, Babu was on his way to a mosque to perform Fajr prayers when he was attacked at the Three Road intersection in Palashpur.
According to his account, Babu cried out during the assault, after which local residents rushed to the scene and managed to apprehend two of the attackers, identified as Kala Shahid and Montu Sium. The remaining assailants fled the location. The injured man was then taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where doctors on duty declared him dead.
