Zubaida Rahman Arrives at Evercare as Khaleda Zia’s London Transfer Faces Delay

Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, arrived at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Friday at 11:54am. Her flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:45am after departing London Heathrow on Thursday (4 December).

She was welcomed at the airport by UK physician Richard Bailey, her elder sister Shahina Khan Zaman, Shahina’s husband retired Air Commodore Syed Shafiujjaman, and media cell member Atikur Rahman Ruman. Several senior BNP officials and security coordinators were also present at the hospital.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir later stated that the plan to take BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to London has been postponed due to the Qatar Amir’s special air ambulance failing to arrive. According to him, the aircraft is expected to reach Bangladesh on Saturday, subject to technical clearance. He added that Khaleda Zia might travel on Sunday should her health condition allow and the medical board give its approval.

BNP Chairperson’s personal physician Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain confirmed late Thursday night that she remains under intensive monitoring at the Critical Care Unit.

Begum Khaleda Zia was previously flown to London on 7 January this year in an air ambulance provided by Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. She underwent treatment at London Clinic and returned to Bangladesh on 5 May, accompanied by Dr Zubaida Rahman.

Tarique Rahman, along with his wife and daughter Zaima Rahman, relocated to London in 2008 following his release from custody for medical treatment. After spending a month in Bangladesh recently, he returned to London on 5 June.
