Authorities have swiftly apprehended the prime suspect in the tragic killing of a divorced housewife, Rishma Khatun, in Joydebpur, Gazipur. The arrest of Masud Rana was carried out by RAB-1 in Kurigram, less than 24 hours after the incident, underscoring the rapid response and efficiency of local law enforcement agencies.
Senior Assistant Director of RAB-1, Shah Alam, confirmed the arrest in a press release on Friday morning. “The apprehended individual, Masud Rana, is the son of Omar Munsi from Anantapur village in Kurigram. Acting on precise intelligence and utilising technological support, our team was able to swiftly locate and detain him,” he stated.
Incident Details
The attack occurred on Wednesday morning in the Bikeybari area under Joydebpur police jurisdiction. The 30-year-old victim, Rishma Khatun, was on her way to work when Masud Rana allegedly assaulted her with a sharp knife. The attack followed her refusal to accept a renewed marriage proposal from him.
Colleagues of the victim raised an alarm, prompting Rana to flee the scene and go into hiding. Rishma was rushed to hospital in critical condition but tragically succumbed to her injuries en route. Her father, Md. Abdul Hakim, filed a formal complaint at Joydebpur Police Station.
