Background of the Case
The alleged victim is the daughter of Sabuj Akon’s wife’s sister and recently passed her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in 2024. According to the police complaint, the victim had been brought to Akon’s home by his wife while she was pregnant, ostensibly to provide care and support. During this period, Akon allegedly began harassing the teenager in various ways.
On 21 August 2024, at a rented residence in Swaroad, Barisal city, when no one else was present, Akon allegedly raped the girl multiple times. Following the incidents, both the victim and her mother were reportedly threatened to ensure silence regarding the assaults. Nearly nine months later, on 26 May 2024, the victim’s mother officially filed a case against Akon.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The preliminary investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Md. Delwar Hossain of Barisal Metropolitan Police’s Kaunia unit. Subsequently, the case was taken over by Detective Police Sub-Inspector Gazi Md. Ahidul Islam for further inquiry.
Police statements indicate that Akon’s actions constitute offences under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 (amended 2003). Based on these findings, the charge sheet has been formally submitted to the court.
