Two Killed in Comilla Microbus Collision

In the early hours of Monday, a tragic head-on collision between a microbus and an unidentified vehicle claimed the lives of two individuals in Daudkandi Upazila, Comilla. The accident occurred on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway near the Dhanakra area, a section notorious for high-speed traffic incidents.

According to reports from the Comilla Highway Police, the microbus lost control while travelling at high speed, crashing into an oncoming vehicle. The impact completely destroyed the front section of the microbus, leaving the passengers with severe injuries.

Officer-in-Charge Ekbal Bahar Majumdar stated that the police arrived at the scene promptly and transported the injured to a nearby hospital. Despite these efforts, both victims succumbed to their injuries before reaching medical care.

Police investigations indicate that the microbus was travelling at an excessive speed at the time of the accident. “Our team responded immediately upon receiving the report and attempted to rescue the injured,” Officer Majumdar said. “Unfortunately, both individuals died before arriving at the hospital. Arrangements are now being made to hand over the bodies to their families.”

Authorities have initiated preparations to file a death case under unidentified circumstances, while a detailed investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the collision. Local residents noted that this stretch of the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway is prone to accidents, particularly due to speeding vehicles.

The local administration and law enforcement agencies have called for heightened caution among drivers, emphasising the importance of maintaining control of vehicles, adhering to speed limits, and remaining vigilant. Residents have also highlighted the urgent need for improved road safety infrastructure to prevent such tragedies in the future.
