A road accident in the Banani Setu Bhaban area of the capital resulted in the deaths of two people after a bus lost control and mounted a central road divider on Thursday (23 April) at approximately 3:50 pm.
The vehicle, identified as belonging to “Bhuiya Paribahan”, was travelling from Mohakhali towards Uttara when it reportedly lost control. According to police accounts, the bus veered onto the median strip, commonly referred to as the road divider or “island”, where two individuals were working at the time. Both died at the scene. Their identities have not yet been confirmed.
Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Farid Ahmed stated that the bus struck the median while travelling along its route, resulting in the fatal incident. He said the vehicle hit the two individuals directly, causing their immediate deaths.
He further explained that the deceased were engaged in road divider maintenance work at the time of the incident. It was also reported that the bus had attempted to avoid another pedestrian prior to mounting the divider, which contributed to the loss of control. However, the sequence of events has been described in preliminary terms and remains subject to further clarification by authorities.
Additional information was provided by Assistant Commissioner Md. Russell Rana of the Mohakhali zone police. He confirmed that the bus ended up on the central median and stated that, in addition to the two fatalities, several other individuals sustained injuries in the incident. The exact number and condition of the injured have not yet been formally confirmed.
Police and emergency responders have been working to remove the bus from the accident site and restore normal traffic flow in the area. The incident caused temporary disruption to vehicular movement along the busy corridor between Mohakhali and Uttara.
