Narsingdi Girl Murder Sparks Arrests of Five

Police in Narsingdi have arrested five individuals, including a local political figure, in connection with the abduction and subsequent murder of a teenage girl in Madhabdi. The victim’s mother filed a case naming nine suspects at Madhabdi Police Station on Thursday night. Authorities apprehended five of the accused the same evening.

Incident Details

The body of the teenage girl was discovered on Wednesday around 12:30 pm in a mustard field located between Bilpar and Dorikandi in the Sadar Upazila. The victim lived with her family in a rented house, while her father and brother were employed as labourers at a nearby textile factory. The family originally hails from Barisal.

According to police reports, the arrested individuals are as follows:

NameAgeDesignation / Identity
Ahmmad Ali Dewan65Former Ward 9 member, Vice President of Madhabdi Union BNP
Imran Dewan32Son of Ahmmad Ali Dewan
Md. Ebadullah35Local resident
Ayub Ali30Local resident
Md. Gaffar37Local resident

Police sources, citing the FIR, revealed that the girl had previous interactions with a young man known locally as “Nura,” who had a reputation for delinquency. Around fifteen days prior, Nura, along with a group of five to six youths, reportedly abducted and sexually assaulted the girl. The family reportedly sought justice from Ahmmad Ali Dewan, the former Ward 9 member, but no action was taken. Allegedly frustrated by the lack of accountability, the perpetrators became increasingly brazen.

On Wednesday night, while the girl’s father was en route to send her to her maternal aunt’s home, Nura and his associates kidnapped her. Despite searches in multiple areas that night, she could not be located. The following morning, locals found her body in the mustard field and alerted Madhabdi Police Station, who subsequently recovered the body.

The victim’s family has alleged that Ahmmad Ali Dewan colluded with the perpetrators, accepting money and suppressing justice. They further claimed that pressure was applied for the family to leave the village, which, according to them, emboldened the criminals and ultimately led to the girl’s murder.

Expressing outrage, Sadar constituency MP Khairul Kabir (Khokon) stated on social media, “All perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice. No one will be spared.”

Madhabdi Police Officer-in-Charge Kamal Hossain confirmed that while five suspects have been detained, the primary accused, Nura, remains at large. He added that a police operation is underway and Nura is expected to be apprehended shortly.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief and concern over the local community, with authorities working to ensure swift and fair justice.
