According to police and local sources, the altercation arose over a seemingly trivial matter: the placement of a motorcycle near a pathway adjacent to the family’s homestead. The disagreement quickly intensified when Sumon Mia and his relatives clashed with neighbours, the family of expatriate Sattar Mia. By approximately 3:00 PM, the verbal argument had escalated into a physical confrontation.
Eyewitnesses allege that during the clash, Sattar Mia’s wife, Romena Begum (30), allegedly armed herself with a machete and struck Sumon Mia repeatedly on his hands and chest. Following the attack, he was rushed first to the Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to the Brahmanbaria District Sadar Hospital for urgent treatment. Doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
After the incident, Romena Begum reportedly fled the scene, while her 65-year-old mother-in-law, Banu Ara Begum, has been taken into police custody. Law enforcement officials continue to search for other individuals involved in the confrontation.
