Bangladesh have registered a notable rise in the latest annual update of the International Cricket Council’s T20 International rankings, moving up to eighth position after overtaking former world champions Sri Lanka. The improvement reflects a period of consistent performances by the Tigers across recent series, both home and away.
With this upward movement, Bangladesh now hold 225 rating points, securing eighth place in the global standings. Their advancement comes as a result of sustained team progress, particularly in balancing contributions between batting and bowling units.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have slipped one place to ninth after losing six rating points, leaving them with a total of 224 points. The narrow margin between the two sides highlights how closely matched they are in the current rankings. Afghanistan remain close behind in tenth position with 220 points, continuing to exert pressure on the teams above them.
At the top of the table, there has been no significant change. India continue to dominate world T20 cricket with 275 points, maintaining their position at number one. England remain second with 262 points, while Australia are third with 258 points. The top seven teams have largely retained their previous positions, indicating a degree of stability in elite T20 cricket.
New Zealand sit fourth with 247 points, followed by South Africa in fifth on 244 points. Pakistan occupy sixth place with 240 points, while the West Indies hold seventh position with 233 points.
Further down the rankings, Zimbabwe and Ireland remain unchanged in eleventh and twelfth places respectively. The United States have made a positive move, climbing two places to 13th with 22 points, reflecting their gradual development in the shortest format. Consequently, the Netherlands and Scotland have each dropped one position to 14th and 15th respectively.

Bangladesh’s progress is being viewed as a reflection of their improving consistency in international cricket. In particular, recent series results have demonstrated a more balanced side, with both bowlers and batters contributing at key moments.
Cricket analysts suggest that maintaining this momentum will be crucial if Bangladesh are to break further into the top tier of T20 cricket. With several international assignments ahead, the team has a realistic opportunity to continue their upward trajectory, provided they sustain their current level of performance and address remaining inconsistencies.
