An elderly man has gone missing moments after being released from custody in Chuadanga, raising concerns about the safety and supervision of vulnerable individuals following their release. Abdul Mannan, aged 70, disappeared from the main gate of Chuadanga District Jail in the early hours of 15 March, shortly after being freed in a case filed by his second wife.
According to information provided by family members, Mannan was released at approximately 5:20 a.m. However, within a very short time after exiting the prison gate, he could no longer be located. His relatives carried out extensive searches in nearby areas, including local roads and transport points, but have so far been unable to find any trace of him.
Mannan is a resident of Kansaripara village in Meherpur Sadar. Three days after his disappearance, his family filed a general diary at Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, formally reporting him as missing. Although the report was submitted promptly, the incident only came to broader public attention some time later.
His son, Asif Hasan, expressed deep concern about his father’s condition. He stated that Mannan is a stroke patient and has been experiencing partial mental disorientation. In addition, he has lost vision in one eye, which significantly limits his ability to move around safely on his own. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a simple outfit consisting of a vest and traditional pyjama trousers.
Family members believe that his fragile physical and mental state may have left him confused and vulnerable immediately after his release, particularly given the early hour and the absence of anyone to accompany him. They have appealed to the authorities and the public for urgent assistance in locating him.
The officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, confirmed that the case is under investigation. A sub-inspector has been assigned to handle the matter, and police are making efforts to trace the missing individual by gathering information and checking surrounding areas.
